2023 Week 9 LoL FFL Post:

BROUGHT TO YOU BY NAZIM BECAUSE KYRIACOS IS WINNING TOO MUCH TO WRITE FOR US ANYMORE, SO NOW I GET DOUBLE PUNISHMENT ON TOP OF LOSING EVERY WEEK…

ree

I’ll touch on each of the matchups briefly, but wanted to discuss some overview topics mainly instead, so I’ll do that afterwards. To the matchups first.

ree

Naz v Ahsan

As with every week, every year, I seem to run into the best possible opponents each week. Here was no different. Of course, CJ Stroud has the best game of any rookie ever against me (41.8 points) and sank my Bucs defense in the process. There was no hope after that… Josh Jacobs, Najee Harris, and Amari Cooper having the best games of the season as well didn’t hurt. Ahsan wins easily but falls short of winning $10 this week.

ree

Alex v Colten

Finally, with a mostly fully healthy lineup, Alex was able to show the strengths of his team, accompanied by a strong Browns defensive performance, and led him to the $10 this week, at the expense of Colten. Nothing crazy in this matchup, an easy win for Alex, but is it maybe too little, too late?

ree

Ali v Yas

Plagued by the IR of JJ and Kyren Williams, Yas struggled to find points once again. Subpar performances from his remaining stars led to an easy victory by Ali, who was carried by Jonnu Smith’s and Rashad White’s best games of the year and a continued surge from AJ Brown after screaming at his QB to get him the ball. He got it, we get it, he’s good. You can stop now. Please, thanks!

ree

Rimmel v Kcos

Dicker the kicker is just better than Garrett Wilson. I have nothing more to add. That’s all you get Kcos.

ree

Humza v Chris

CHRISSSSSS! Please go get another QB. You cannot survive off Geno… anyone else would’ve been enough. Sad day. Humza gets another free pass. Man, do those bye weeks hurt. That Raiders defense sub would’ve been nice, whom I’m assuming you grabbed because they were playing the Giants. Would’ve been enough, but just nicely chilling on your bench. A low scoring affair, but Humza prevails.

ree

Sean v Parth

Parth enacts his revenge. Just how he like it, I’ll just leave the score here for Sean to contemplate the next time he speaks to Parth. 125.8 – 94.1. Some were wondering what it would be like if Parth didn’t win. I guess we’ll never know…

INSIGHTS:

Firstly, I have officially been eliminated from the playoffs… no surprise there!

Right now, Kcos is sitting pretty at the top and would take a ridiculous collapse for him not to make the playoffs. Then there’s a big mashup in the middle with everyone else sitting between 6-3 and 3-6 with the playoff cutoff currently at 5-4. It should be a tight race towards the finish line these next 5 weeks. Not just for who will make the playoffs, but for the following as well:

- Who will avoid the last place game and not qualifying for league cup play next year

- Who will be relegated and who will be promoted next year

ree

So, in case you didn’t know, the trade deadline was after week 7 on October 25th. I wanted to go over what the league cup might look like next year if we were doing it this year. Obviously, all of this is a proposal and subject to change and confirmation/approval from the league. The proposal has been for the following:

- Weeks 7-9 for group play

- Week 10 for championship week

- Top 2 in Champions division or Finalists the previous year (TBD) qualify for bye week in week 7

- Bottom 2 in Relegation division or Last Place game opponents the previous year (TBD) do not qualify for league cup play

- I will manually set the schedule those weeks to have the correct matchups

- 2 teams with the best record meet in week 10 (Most points scored as 1st tiebreaker, then H-2-H as 2nd tiebreaker, and Highest seed as 3rd tiebreaker)

- Prize will be $100 + mini trophy (new each year) taken from the pool of an increased buy-in next year ($150/person)

So, for example, let’s use this year. If we decided on Finalists and Last place game from the previous year, that would give Ahsan and Alex a bye week in Week 7 (free W) and would not qualify Humza and Ali for league cup play. If you take a look at weeks 7-9 this year, here’s how it would look (obviously I didn’t change the schedule to match so its uneven but would be correct next year):

- Ahsan, Kcos: 3-0

- Alex, Parth, Chris, Sean: 2-1

- Yas, Rimmel: 1-2

- Naz, Colten: 0-3

- Humza, Ali: DQ

That would mean this week would have a manual championship match between Ahsan and Kyriacos this coming week! Just something to think about for next year. Please let me know any questions, feedback, suggestions, etc. as we get this rolled out next year, but I’m super excited to get this going!
