Post-Week 1

And Away We Go

I don't know about you, but I'm ecstatic about football being back! With hockey and basketball season looming, this is easily one of my favorite times of the year. There were so many moments to highlight from this past week, but I feel it's only appropriate to start with my favorite one that I'm sure all of you will enjoy... Well almost all of you.

In My Feelings

"I don't know where you are in your life right now, off the field. All I know is you got a lot of things going, there's a lot of people that have an opinion about you, and whether it be good or bad, you're in the spotlight all the time." Yes, that's what Antonio Brown was told by Jon Gruden, but I feel like this also applies to Kyriacos after this past week. With the early games in the books, I received the following message:

ree

I feel like this is self-explanatory, but yes, "shocked" was the result at the end of the day. In this time, anything is possible with any of these guys. On the flip side, Daniel was sure it was over too:

"Oh.... so it's going to be THIS kind of season..... good to know...... Maybe I should pick up Nate Peterman..... Nazim, from now on, all drafts are maghrib or later."

Obviously, that seemed to work out just fine. Granted, I'm sure the top producers from that Colts-Chargers game are not going to reproduce those results very often, it was a game that carried the victory for Daniel. I mean, it was kind of ridiculous. K. Allen with 22.3, A. Ekeler with 36.4, T.Y. Hilton with 24.7, M. Mack with 25.4, and with 7 TD's between them, all in the same game. Some big stat lines from players that were not selected in the top 2 rounds. Even with a huge performance from D. Henry and A. Jeffrey, it wasn't enough to overcome the close game that was determined by kicking and J. Gordon on Sunday night.

Recap

In the other games, Yaseer was able to pull out the win on Monday night, thanks to a dominating performance by J. Jacobs. Rimmel was able to coast to an easy finish after a terrible game from A. Jones on Thursday night and again aided by an injury that benefited him. Got the boost to D. Johnson before the season began because L. Miller went down for the year and got the boost in this game from an injury to J. Mixon. Maybe the tables have officially turned and Rimmel will no longer get hit by the injury bug ever again... **cough cough** My matchup with Ali S. turned out to be one that continually flipped back and forth, until Detroit decided to stop playing defense and let Arizona unleash their offense on them. Despite a large total, Ali S. was able to "cook" me with the Cardinals and Vikings games, and became too much to overcome. Although, I'm not going to mention how if Yaseer hadn't stolen my QB and TE, I would've won, but I won't go there.. And the last game, I feel like I shouldn't even talk about.. Zeeshan was only able to put up 61.7 points and took L, with a -7 from the Jags defense and a bench that had 2 players combine to outscore his entire starting roster.

Overreaction Monday

Looking at the draft grades and the week 1 results, I was right on 4 out of the 5 matchups, which is a pretty good start. My A+ team, Yaseer, beat Parth, who had an A. Daniel, with a B-, beat Kyriacos, with a C. Ali B. and Zeeshan were both graded with a B, so that was a win. Ali S., who had an A-, beat me, who I would've given less than that. My 1 miss, was Ahsan, who had a B+, losing to Rimmel, who had a C+, but I guess that's what the rest of the season will fix. My champion prediction of Yaseer winning, started off nicely with a 1-0 start. So yeah, it's still early, but things are looking good so far.

Stat Master

This year, it seemed like there were a lot more points scored by everyone, at least, more than the usual. Looking deeper into the numbers showed that this was true. Last year in week 1, there were 4 teams that scored under 90 points and the 10 teams combined to have an average of 111.4 points scored per team that week. This year, that number went up to 118.4 points scored per team and only 1 team scoring below 90 points. To put that into perspective, in our league's history, we've only ever had 5 teams average more than 118 points per week on the season, 4 of those being last year's 4 playoff teams. Obviously, this means there's definitely been more offense through the years, but this heavy point total to start the season is unprecedented. We'll see if this holds up throughout the next few weeks, but it's a high number start to the season, so expect more points from now on.

The other thing to note after week 1 is the teams that started 0-1: Myself, Zeeshan, Parth, Ahsan, and Kyriacos. Keep that in mind for this week's upcoming matches, because teams that have started 0-2, have never won the championship, and only a handful have made the playoffs. In the past 3 years, 7 teams have started 0-2. 4 of them ended up in the last place game, and 2 have made the playoffs. But those 2 teams, lost both of their respective games in the playoffs and finished in 4th. So needless to say, starting 0-2 is detrimental to your team's future this year. Look for the key matchup this week between Zeeshan and Kyriacos. You can almost certainly count out the loser from that game.

Key Notes:

1. Ali B., change your team name

2. Yaseer, wear your dress

3. Suggest any polls you would like on the website & please vote on them, otherwise I'll feel like everything I'm doing is useless.. As Antonio Brown put it, "I'm more than a football player. I'm a real person. It ain't about the football, I know how to do that, I show you guys that on the daily. This my life. Ain't no more games."

Naz's Pick 6:

Maybe this will be the year it works.. probably not though, but still gonna try for some reason...

1. Cowboys (-5.5) at Redskins

2. Cardinals (+13) at Ravens

3. Chiefs (-7) at Raiders

4. Jaguars at Texans (-8.5)

5. Browns at Jets (+6.5)

6. Chargers (-2) at Lions

YTD: 0-0
