Post-Week 2

Even Sta®ts

Don’t you just love when both divisions are evenly separated and perfectly symmetrical? What a beauty. We have one 2-0 and one 0-2 team in each division split by the remaining three 1-1 teams in each division. Why is this even cooler than you thought? Well I’m glad you asked. If you look back at the last 2 years, it went exactly the same through the first 2 weeks. This means that the last 2 years are good examples of what to expect this year, because we all know history repeats itself.

So what do we know from the last 2 years to predict what will happen this year. Well, we already mentioned starting 0-2 means you won’t be winning the championship or even playing in the championship game. That means Zeeshan and Parth are basically out of it, but one of them will win this week since they play each other. So we’ll be left with one winless team after this week. In addition, there has been two 3-0 teams in the past 2 years, with 1 each year. Both of those teams finished in 2nd place. That means if only one of Ali and Daniel wins this week, you can expect that team to finish in 2nd place this year. Not surprisingly enough, the championship team in the past 2 years has started 1-1. This means any of the 6 teams at 1-1 have a good chance of winning it all. Sorry for “setting the field on fire” if you’re not one of those 6 teams.

Missed Highlights

A couple things I forgot to mention last week, that I thought I could touch on this week. The waiver wire auction report is always fun to look at, especially when the result carries a huge impact. In the first week, I was able to snag Darren Waller for $27, beating out Yaseer by $5. He then proceeds to try and trade for him, so free leverage is always great. In addition, I was able to also obtain the Patriots defense with $11, beating out Kyriacos by only $1. Why was that important? Oh, I don’t know. They only put up 35 points last week! This week was marked by me picking up Terry McLaurin for $17, beating out Yaseer, who bid $11, and Kyriacos, who bid $6. But, I don’t think this week will provide much difference since Washington plays Chicago. I think the better pickup was Chark, who had a great game last night.

The other thing I wanted to touch on was the potential impact that deleting the kicker position would have had. Obviously, that vote in the offseason lost, and we still have kickers on our rosters. The ones to vote yes were Kyriacos, Parth, and Daniel. In addition to it messing up all the stat consistencies from previous years that I’d be able to talk about, I wanted to look and see what difference it would have made in the close games thus far. Ironically enough, Kyriacos played Daniel week 1 and Daniel played Parth week 2, so it’s not much fun when those guys played each other. But in both weeks, Daniel would have still secured the wins, but by closer margins if there were no kickers. Week 1 would have been a 0.2-point victory instead of an 11.2-point victory and week 2 would have been a 1.4-point victory instead of a 2.4-point victory. The only game thus far that no kickers would have affected the end result was this past week’s game between Yaseer and Ahsan. No kickers would have given the win to Yaseer instead of Ahsan, but there’ll be more on that game later in the post.

Changes Week to Week

Drastic point changes from week 1 to week 2. Crazy stuff. Remember how I was mentioning the drastic increase from last year’s points to this year. I mentioned the increase from 111.4 to 118.4 points/team for the week. Well, this week we had an average of 106.8 points/team. Seems like things are starting to balance out. An unlike last year, when that number jumped to 116 points/team in week 2, there was a significant drop here. Obviously, the drop in ridiculous stats by some players helped this. I mentioned that the Chargers and Colts key players would not reproduce the results between those 4 players and I was correct. Last week, they combined for 108.8 points and 7 TDs. Well, this week they combined for 53.7 points and 2 TDs. A huge drop in production; they produced less than half the points of week 1.

Taco bout What a Week

To recap the games this week, Zeeshan was destroyed again for the 2nd straight week, being outscored by almost 100 points combined through 2 weeks. While the next worst outscoring to start the season is only by a combined 35 points. Kind of reminds me of the start the Dolphins are having. They benched their QB this week and Zeeshan lost his to injury for the year. All he needs to do now is to post about eating a Taco and we can call it. Obviously, losing Tyreek Hill and Tevin Coleman didn’t help either, but it’s definitely been a rough start for the new head coach… For both teams. I went on to an easy win over Ali B, securing the money for the week and Kyriacos stayed silent this week as he took the easy win over Zeeshan, even without Alshon Jeffrey getting any points. Ali was able to secure the win with another solid output from his team, but it was a nice comeback effort from Rimmel on Monday night. Odell and Bell scored a combined 41 points, but fell short by 23 points. A valiant effort when all hope was lost, down by 64 points heading into Monday night.

Obviously, there were two games this week to highlight because of the great endings. First, Yaseer went down to Ahsan due to a clerical error on his part. As he watched Texas Tech put up an abysmal performance Saturday night and then proceeded to fly back Sunday morning, there was no one checking his lineup prior to the games starting. Because of that, Sterling Shepard stayed in his lineup at the flex position and he lost by a measly 2.5 points. Any replacement from his bench would’ve secured the win. Then again, not much to grieve here since 85 points for the week doesn’t usually deserve a win anyways. The other game we heard about was the Monday night thriller leading to the 2.4-point victory by Daniel over Parth. It came down to Baker Mayfield vs Nick Chubb and due to the Jets lack of offense, Chubb was able to gain 2.8 more points than Mayfield. Although, this should be taken as a nice poetic end to Parth’s team name, with the changing of Nick Chubb from his team last year to Daniel’s team this year.

Key Notes:

1. Ali B: Change your team name, mostly cause I’m tired of seeing the “Dynasty”, otherwise I’ll change your name to whatever I want.

2. Zeeshan & Parth: I do feel like it’s necessary for you to change your team names since you do not hold the players of which your team name is based on. Also, y’all are both in last place, and there might be a reason for that. Seems like you could use the change up.

3. Yaseer: Yes, still waiting on that dress. I expect a $3 million settlement if you don’t do it.

Weekly Winners:

Week 1: Ali S. = $5

Week 2: Naz = $5

Naz’s Pick 6:

Another average week. In my defense though, I didn’t expect the Chargers to blow it late in the game and the Texans to put out a dud of a game. I also forgot Darnold was out, so that’s on me…

1. Broncos at Packers (-7.5)

2. Falcons (+1.5) at Colts

3. Panthers at Cardinals (-2.5)

4. Saints at Seahawks (-4.5)

5. Steelers (+6.5) at 49ers

6. Raiders (+9) at Vikings

YTD: 3-3
