Post-Weeks 3-6

Welcome Back

So I know it has been a minute since I’ve written a post, which means there was a lot to review and research for the 4 weeks that have past since I have written a post. But with that comes good news. The time saved on writing posts paid off though since I passed my exam!

But anyways, back to football. I wanted to continue to review the things I mentioned in the past posts, but I know it’s been a while since you read them, so I’ll recap what I’ve talked about as well. I started out in week 2 talking about the similar starts to the season as the prior 2 years. Well I spent a good amount of time researching if that trend would follow for either of those years for this year. Turns out, the answer is a resounding no. This year, we had two 3-0 teams and one 0-3 team, which neither of the years prior had, so that trend was immediately dead. But I took a little more time researching just to see if somehow the same kind of standings would result if we waited a few weeks. And as you would guess, it has been very different each year. Weird thing to find out though as I was researching this: in 2017, we had a 7-way tie for first place in the league after week 5; all of those teams were 3-2. And looking at the standings now, it’s just a reminder that anything can still happen. The craziest thing I found though, when researching the records of every team week-to-week was the relationship between teams. So far every week through 6 weeks, Rimmel and Yaseer have had the same result in their respective games. That means when Rimmel won, Yaseer won, and vise-versa. Just for reference, they both got their 2 wins in week 1 and week 5. But wait, there’s more! Every week, the result of Ahsan’s team has been the opposite of Ali B’s team. That means, when Ahsan lost, Ali B won, and vise-versa. Both of these teams are now 3-3 with similar point differential margins on the season. Wild stuff! We’ll see if this holds up this coming week and will be interesting to follow. Although, Yaseer plays Rimmel next week so that game will have to be an exception to the trend.

Changes

I had talked about the weekly point totals and the fluctuations that had occurred. Looks like everything is balancing out and is pretty par with previous years scoring wise. I had also mentioned the trend downwards for the Colts and Chargers players. Looks like that was an understatement. Ekeler and Allen have become useless these past few weeks, barely putting up enough stats to warrant a starting position for fantasy.

Also, side note: those six teams that started out 1-1 that I said have a chance to win it all are myself, Ali B, Ahsan, Rimmel, Yaseer, and Kyriacos. We’ll see how that pans out, but isn’t looking too good thus far.

Weird Notes

Some notes after looking at the standings through 6 weeks:

· Parth has a point differential on the season of +0.3

o 666.6 points scored vs 666.3 points against à Yes, that’s a lot of 6’s… I’m now very scared of Parth. Why couldn’t it just be 69.420% like the GOAT, Gardner Minshew

· Points do NOT equal Wins

o I have the most points scored on the season, yet have 2 L’s and are 2 games behind first place in the division

o Kyriacos has almost the same number of points scored on the season as Daniel (20 points away), yet has 4 more L’s

o I have scored 275 more points than Zeeshan, yet only 2 games separate us

· 3-3 is currently a playoff record

o Every team other than Kyriacos is only 1 game out of being in the playoffs

· There are no winless teams left

· We still have an undefeated team left

Going Once, Going Twice, Sold

Another thing I had talked about before was the free agent auction report. I had mentioned me winning some key players by slim margins. I got Darren Waller by beating out Yaseer by $5, which has been great, but the other ones are of some importance. I had beat out Yaseer to get Scary Terry and he helped me beat Yaseer this previous week by putting up 24 points. The other one was the Patriots defense that I beat out Kyriacos by $1 to get. Why is this so significant? Well, over the past 4 weeks, Kyriacos would’ve won 2 of the 4 games he lost if he had the Patriots defense starting over what he chose. Weeks 3 and 5 would’ve been unaffected, but weeks 4 and 6 would’ve turned into wins. In week 4, he lost to Parth by 5 points thanks to his defense putting up -6 points. Granted, he would’ve won this matchup if he just didn’t play a defense too, but would’ve easily won with the Patriots defense. The much more significant result would’ve been this past week against Ali S. The Patriots would’ve provided an additional 21 points and led to a victory by 0.8 points. This means that $1 difference cost Kyriacos from being 3-3 on the season instead of 1-5. The potential difference of being in the playoffs vs being in last place was one dollar! The only other close auction result over the past 4 weeks was Wayne Gallman, in which I outbid Parth by $2. That result did not have an impact on any results of note.

Kicker or No Kicker

The last thing I mentioned that I wanted to track was the affect kickers have on matchups. After taking a look at every game decided by 20 points or less, kickers would not have changed the result in any of the games in weeks 3-6. Interestingly enough, kickers actually made the games closer than they would’ve been if they had not been there in each close game in these past few weeks. But we will continue to monitor as we go along.

Undefeated

There were just a few other things I wanted to touch on before recapping the last 4 weeks. We still have one undefeated team left, Ali S. This corresponds to last year’s streaking team, Kyriacos, who finished 13-1 and got 2nd in the league. We’ll see if Ali S follows that trend. His team has been carried so far by the #7 overall QB, #2 and #6 overall RB’s, #1 and #3 overall WR’s, #9 overall TE, #5 overall DEF, and #4 overall K. A lot of top 10 players usually accounts for a lot of points and wins on the season. We’ll see if they can keep up these numbers. We no longer have any winless teams, and actually didn’t have any after week 3, which is tied for the earliest in the season to not have any winless teams in league history. The only other year to not have any winless teams by week 4 was in 2015, in which both winless teams that year, won in week 4. I had talked about how points don’t correlate to wins, but I wanted to expand on that a bit. Until last year, we had never had the top 4 scoring teams for the year all make the playoffs. There has always been at least 1 team that wasn’t a top 4 scoring team for the year made the playoffs. Last year was an exception to this rule, because all 4 top scoring teams for the year made the playoffs. I believe that year will follow that rule and not be an exception, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Week 3

Not much crazy to talk about this week. Ali B was able to take care of Rimmel easily, winning by more than 50 points and Daniel was able to take out Yaseer, thanks to Russell Wilson putting up 41.3 points. In the battle of winless teams, Parth was able to secure the win and left Zeeshan to be the only winless team left at 0-3. I was able to defeat Kyriacos with a huge outing of 37.1 points by Keenan Allen and facilitated the beginning of his losing slide. In the final battle, it seemed like the result was clear going into the Sunday night matchup of Rams vs Browns, but that was not the case. Cooper Kupp and Greg Zuerlein were able to provide over 36 points to complete the comeback for Ali S to beat Ahsan.

Week 4

The biggest news of this week was the trade of Greg Olsen for Chris Carson, which has turned out to be a significant trade, looking at the 3 weeks after the trade went down. Carson, who had fumbling issues and deficient production through the first 3 weeks of the season, led to the belief that he would be trending down for the rest of the season. This was extremely evident by the post by Kyriacos, as shown below. But now, he has posted big numbers since then. This week I was able to destroy Rimmel by over 70 points and Parth was able to beat Kyriacos, but that could’ve been different, like I mentioned above. In a close, low scoring game, Ahsan was able to win over Ali B by 6 points. In the battle of the undefeated teams, Ali S was able to take care of Daniel easily, to remain the only undefeated team on the season. And lastly, in the one of the craziest endings to a game, was Zeeshan getting his first win of the season and to leave no winless teams left. It came down to the Monday night game of the Steelers vs Bengals. Yaseer had Juju Smith-Schuster and Zeeshan had James Connor, but Yaseer had a lead of 103.5 to 85.2 going into that game. It seemed like a sure fire victory for Yaseer, especially since James Connor had only 26.2 points total through 3 weeks combined. But Connor had a great day, putting up 22.5 points, while Juju had a very subpar game, only putting up 3 points. This led to Zeeshan winning by a slim margin of 1.2 points.

Week 5

This week, there was a ton of things to recap. Daniel was able to get another win over Zeeshan, by only a slim margin of 1.6 points. This was helped by a huge performance from Sammy Watkins getting 0.0 points. But that wasn’t the only 0 point performance by a WR this week that led to a close loss. Thanks to a 0 point performance from Mike Evans, Parth was taken out by Rimmel by 8 points. A 1.4-point performance from Emmanuel Sanders also didn’t help Parth out. Two of the matchups had very similar margins of victories. Ali S was able to beat Ali B by 37.6 points and Yaseer was able to beat Kyriacos by 37.4 points. Kyriacos pointed out the fact that had a ridiculous total scored against him, but it wasn’t even the highest total of the week. That belonged to Ahsan as I will talk about, but I first was just curious to see what the record was for our league for most points scored in a week. After researching our league history, the most points ever scored was last year in week 9 by Rimmel. The total was a whopping 175.9 points, supported by 4 players with more than 20 points, and without Barkley even in the lineup. We’ll have to wait and see if that record will ever be beat, but for now, it stands. The most ridiculous performance by Aaron Jones led Ahsan to beat me by a significant margin. Not only did he wreck the Cowboys, but me as well, which hurts so much more. The margin of victory for Ahsan was around 50 points, but why I am pointing this out? Well, exactly 1 year ago in week 5, I played Ahsan and had the same result: I lost by around 50 points. Crazy stuff… hopefully it doesn’t happen again next year.

ree

Week 6

Like week 3, not much to talk about here. Ali B got the slim win over Parth by 7.3 points and I was able to beat Yaseer by 50 points as I mentioned before. Ali S was able to beat Kyriacos by a good 20 points, but that could’ve been different, like I mentioned above. Zeeshan was able to get his second win of the season over Ahsan, even with Diggs on the bench (with Diggs = 167.3 points, which would not be enough to be highest ever). In the final game, Daniel was able to beat Rimmel, despite having a 0 from Devante Adams for the week. Looking back to the season beginning post, Daniel’s team was full of Colts and Bears players, so you would think that with both teams having the same bye week this week that, that would result in a loss, but obviously that was not the case. A big win for Daniel when I’m sure even he expected to lose this week.

Key Notes:

1. Ali B: CHANGE YOUR TEAM NAME!

2. I guess Parth is just going to ignore my last post then…

3. Yaseer: Yes, still waiting on that dress. The league is now investigating whether further action needs to be taken.
